Land of the Rising Sun

This blog, by it's very nature, features a lot of Italian, British, German and hot American models. But there is no mistaking that in the world of racing, the Japanese has been dominant at times All 33 entries to the past couple Indy 500's have been Honda's. Nissan dominates the fast and furious Tokyo Drift culture and Subaru rules rallying. Toyota is a top competitor in off road, hell, they're racing in Nascar.

Spotted locally are the Nissan GTR (nickname: Godzilla), and hot new Nissan 370ZX. I've seen a couple rare 90's Ferrari-beater Acura NSX's, and, my personal ride, the Honda S2000. The NSX was a very low volume technology test bed. They weren't built on an assembly line as such, more of a laboratory for bringing their racing technologies to a real car for the street. When the car had served it's development purposes, the facility was expanded to build to build the still very low volume S2K. These two cars pioneered the use of lightweight aluminum and bonded composites, along with variable valve timing derived from their Formula One engines. The S2000 has the highest atmospheric (non-turbo)specific output (108hp/liter)of any engine sold in America except for the Ferrari 430 Spyder at about 111 hp/liter, as well as God's own shifter. It also holds the distinction of having one of the most stolen items on every insurance company list; it's seats. The seats are non-power-adjustable, but are incredibly supportive and can be adjusted to fit like the proverbial glove. Replacement value: about $8,000.
